Storm Spotting To Help The National Weather Service

Keep The Community Informed

About us

Green County Amateur Radio Skywarn is a group of local amateur radio operators who have been trained in severe weather spotting by the National Weather Service. Our primary purpose is to observe incoming storm cells for early detection of the storm becoming severe for the publics safety. Our observation reports (severe only) are then passed through local amateur radio weather networks directly to the National Weather Service office in Milwaukee/Sullivan to help provide early severe weather warnings to the public.
Storm spotting in Green County is an ever growing and crucial need within the amateur radio community. Although you need not be an amateur radio operator to be a storm spotter, but more radio operators are needed to become involved for this particular community service that can help save lives.
If you are a ham radio operator, please consider becoming a spotter in Green County. The more we have involved, the better coverage of the County we can provide. If you're not a ham radio operator, you still can be involved with us and ride along. Two sets of trained eyes are better than one, and the more accurate the report can be. It is also much safer to travel in pairs. Safety first!!

We do have a network on the Spotter Network Website for spotter GPS tracking. Sign up and join the Green County Amateur Radio Skywarn Network. It's all free.

You must now have to update your position at least once every 90 days, or you will be dropped from the networks "Position Table" resulting in your position not showing up on any of the supported radar program feeds.

Among those in the storm observing community, the May 31, 2013 El Reno tornado will long be remembered as one of the most dangerous storms we've dealt with. Tragically, eight people died in this tornado, including four storm chasers. This video is an effort to make sure that we don't see a repeat of this tragic situation. It's intended for storm spotters/chasers who have some storm observation experience, but the information is important for anyone.
